Are you Considering Adoption?
We are to help you find the right companion.
Choosing the right animal is the first step. We’ll talk you through each cat or dog’s personality, background, and needs, as well as your own circumstances, to help make the best match. All SCAN animals must be adopted as family pets.
To begin, please complete a pre-adoption questionnaire for a cat, a dog, or both. We’ll then arrange a meeting at the shelter to discuss your planned adoption.
At SCAN, animal welfare always comes first. Our experienced team is available to support you with any questions or challenges, especially during the home trial period when both you and your new pet are adjusting. Help is only a phone call or email away.
Cat Adoption
You can download the cat pre-adoption questionnaire here: SCAN Cat Pre-Adoption Questionnaire
Once you have completed the questionnaire, you are welcome to take one of our cats on a home trial. This can be especially helpful if you already have cats, as it allows any compatibility issues to be identified before you commit to adoption.
Our kittens and cats are sterilised between 4 and 6 months of age, depending on their health and individual development.
Adoption fees and donations help us rescue, rehabilitate, and care for cats in need.
Dog Adoption
The dog pre-adoption questionnaire is available to download or complete online using the links provided.

After you complete the questionnaire, the next step is a home trial. This gives you and your new dog the chance to get to know each other. Most trials are successful, but the animal’s welfare is always our top priority, and we may arrange a home visit during this period.
Our adoption fees cover vaccinations, microchipping, and passport costs. We also ask adopters to contribute towards the legally required castration or sterilisation, helping us continue rescuing more animals in need.
International Adoption
International adoptions are an important part of SCAN’s rehoming work. Thanks to support from adopters across Europe and beyond, many more animals are able to start new lives in loving homes.
SCAN is a Núcleo Zoológico registered animal shelter, which means we can legally arrange transport for animals across borders. This involves complex TRACES paperwork, which we complete free of charge because our priority is finding safe, happy futures for the animals in our care.
Although a home trial is not usually possible outside Spain, we still ask you to complete the pre-adoption questionnaire. We then pass your details, along with those of the animal you are interested in, to a local animal charity so they can carry out a home check.
The international pre-adoption questionnaire is available to download or complete online.
We use specialised, accredited transporters whose vehicles meet or exceed British and European standards. We can also arrange flights, depending on the destination and circumstances. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
Thank you for considering adoption. Every animal deserves a safe, loving home where they can thrive, and in return they bring companionship, joy, and laughter.
