CORONA 19 STATE OF ALARM

ITEMS YOU MAY WISH TO KNOW ABOUT SCAN DURING THE STATE OF ALARM.

As I write we are now on Day 28 of Lockdown,
and the surreal state of affairs continues to exist.

The personalised Travel Authority Letter we developed for our Volunteers is working very well, as a consequence it enables Volunteers who continue to make a supreme effort to get to SCAN to fulfil their shifts and care for our Animals.

Firstly can I say thank you to each and everyone of our Volunteers for coming in and continuing to support not just the Cats and Dogs but their Colleagues on their Shift.

We are working closely with the Townhall, Policia Local and Guardia Civil which has proven to be beneficial in a number of ways, El Verger and Els Poblets Police have both given us some items of PPE which they can afford to release, just to help out SCAN.

We had a major problem Friday morning with our Electrical Supply, the Town Hall organised for an Electrical Contractor to visit SCAN on Good Friday to assess the electrical problem, the Contractor returned on Saturday with new and higher rated electrical equipment for the external Supply board, end of problem it was a great gesture of support. The Alcalde told me it was totally free of charge, and at the same time thanked SCAN for the work we did in the Village on Good Friday morning in rescuing a mother Cat ( Lolita ) and her 5 newly born Kittens. Mutual respect and support pays dividends.

At this Stage we have sufficient PPE in SCAN for the Volunteers, including Masks, Gloves, Aprons and Sanitizer Gel.
All of our Suppliers continue to deliver and ensure we have our Stocks.

I announced at the AGM that we had been given 2400 square metres of Land adjacent to SCAN in order to support our next Stage of Development. We had costed the initial work programme and had developed a Fundraising Scheme, it was my intention to roll this out in May unfortunately this is now all on hold and is unlikely to commence until 2021,as our focus on Expenditure is rightfully targeted at supporting our Animal Care.

I have been in contact with the States Vet in Guernsey and informed him that in all probability SCAN will not be undertaking more Adoptions in 2020, likewise I have been in contact with Condor Ferries Chief Executive and explained the same to him, they have undertaken to maintain the significant discount scheme we have with them.

Income has unfortunately taken a major blow :-

1... Our Shop is closed losing between 1600 and 2000 Euros per month
2 .. Events Cancelled losing around 1400 Euro per month.
3 .. Tins we cant get to the Tins as all the shops are shut losing about 350 Euro a month
4. Shelter Income has virtually disappeared as the Public are not allowed to enter, Walk in Donations drop, Adoptions on Hold no Income . Losing about 1500 Euro on average per month.

In General we are approximately 4800 Euro down on a number of our Standard Income Streams
.

We have increased our Appeals for funding on Facebook with some success, we have outlined our case to a range of potential Donors and are awaiting replies, Adopters in Guernsey with whom I am in regular contact , members of the SCAN Family Chat Page have made donations. Volunteers who not only covered their shifts have donated as well.

Cost control is now a major issue, 46% of our expenditure is on Vets Bills, I am reviewing all aspects of Cost and will need to take some prudent decisions.

I am now reaching out to you to see if you can and are willing to help SCAN to keep operating in these difficult times :-

if you could make a Donation of 15€ each
it WILL build a lifeline for SCAN
Please look into your hearts and help SCAN carry on going and saving the lives of Abandoned and Maltreated Animals.
